Pima County Historic Courthouse
Music in the Courtyard

Wednesdays & Fridays | 11am – 1pm | Free Admission

The Music in the Courtyard Concert Series returns for its fifth season, transforming the Historic Pima County Courthouse Courtyard into a gathering place where art, culture, and community flourish. Running from September through May, these free lunchtime concerts invite residents, downtown workers, and visitors alike to pause, connect, and experience the joy of live music in one of Tucson’s most historic settings.
At its core, this series is about more than midday entertainment—it’s about strengthening our creative community by offering paid opportunities for local musicians to share their craft.
In partnership with Visit Tucson, the Tucson Folk Festival, Tucson Jazz Festival, Southwest Folklife Alliance, and Art State Arizona, the series presents a diverse lineup. Wednesdays feature Tucson Folk Festival performers, regional artists, and jazz musicians, while Fridays highlight the Southwest Folklife Alliance’s Master-Apprentice Program, celebrating and sustaining cultural traditions.
Music in the Courtyard embodies Art State Arizona’s vision of making the arts essential to everyday life. By weaving live performance into downtown’s daily rhythm, the series elevates the visibility of artists, strengthens Tucson’s creative economy, and enhances quality of life through the transformative power of music.

Tucson, AZ 85701
Directions
Nestled in the heart of downtown Tucson, the courtyard is just a short walk from major arterials:
From I‑10, take the Congress Street exit, head east, then turn north onto Church Avenue to reach the site
Nearby parking options include the El Presidio Garage, Library Garage, and Public Works Garage, all within a 3–5 minute walk
Background
Designed in 1929 by Roy Place in the elegant Spanish Colonial Revival style, the U-shaped courthouse frames a serene lawn-covered courtyard with an ornamental fountain, shaded arcades, and artificial turf—an inviting urban oasis.
A historic granite strip embedded in the walkway marks the site of Tucson’s original Presidio, and a portion of the 1775 Fort wall is preserved nearby
The arcades provide shaded seating, perfect for casual gatherings, lunches, or live performances, all supported with free Wi-Fi and public restrooms
The courthouse itself houses the Southern Arizona Heritage & Visitor Center, the Gem & Mineral Museum, Visit Tucson, and other cultural attractions—making the courtyard a cultural and civic hub.

The Southern Arizona Arts & Cultural Alliance is now Art State Arizona
