Oro Valley Fall Festival of the Arts FOA (34)

This March, Art State Arizona invites artists and art lovers alike to welcome spring at the Oro Valley Spring Foodie, Art & Wine Festival at Oro Valley Marketplace. As a featured activation within this vibrant weekend celebration of flavor, music, and community, the Plein Air Painting Festival brings creativity outdoors—capturing the color, light, and energy of the season in real time.

Artists of all ages and experience levels are invited to participate in this juried, two-day competition. Plein air painting—creating artwork outdoors, directly from observation—challenges artists to respond to shifting sunlight, movement, and atmosphere. Set against the backdrop of desert landscapes, architectural textures, and lively festival scenes, inspiration is everywhere.

Artists may compete in three primary categories:

  • Nature: Capture the Sonoran Desert’s flora, sky, and surrounding landscape in spring light.
  • Architecture: Explore built environments, design elements, and textures shaped by sun and shadow.
  • People: Reflect the spirit of the festival through portraits and scenes of human connection.
  • A dedicated Youth Category (under 18) supports emerging young artists.

Up to 30 selected artists will compete for more than $2,250 in total cash awards, including:

  • 1st Place: $500 per Category
  • 2nd Place: $250 per Category
  • Youth Best Painting: $250
  • Judge’s Choice – Best in Show: $500

All artwork is created onsite during festival hours and showcased publicly before awards are announced Sunday afternoon—giving guests a chance to watch art come to life and connect with working artists. Join us in celebrating spring, creativity, and the unique beauty of Oro Valley.

Showcase your creativity at one of Southern Arizona’s most vibrant celebrations. The Festival welcomes visual artists and exhibitors working in all mediums—from painting, sculpture, and photography to jewelry, ceramics, and wearable art. This juried, two-day outdoor festival draws thousands of attendees eager to discover and purchase unique, handcrafted works while enjoying live music, regional cuisine, and Arizona wines. As an artist or exhibitor, you’ll connect directly with enthusiastic buyers, gain exposure in a dynamic marketplace, and be part of a signature event that celebrates art, flavor, and community.
